Senior IT Technician / IT Technician for the Systems Team in the Information Technology Services (Ref.: 537795)
Information Technology Services (ITS) provides central IT services to support the University’s teaching, learning, research and administrative activities. ITS is transforming its organization to support its strategic development and adoption of new technologies. Information about ITS can be obtained at https://www.its.hku.hk/.
The Role
The appointee will be expected to:
- maintain the central IT infrastructure, especially Microsoft-related systems, servers, storage, endpoint management, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager, Intune, SharePoint Server, Microsoft 365, Power Platform, Cloud and middleware to provide support to the University’s applications and services;
- work closely with other HKU departments and oversee the Operating System administration of departmental servers, mainly on Windows-based servers;
- liaise with and manage system vendors/suppliers on major services, enhancement or new services to address users’ needs and support the system platforms of business applications in close liaison with application teams/owners;
- take ownership of system services to ensure smooth transition in service delivery and operations;
- support the Service Desk on systems and related services;
- collaborate with cross-functional teams; and
- perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Qualities
Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree in IT or a related discipline, with at least 1 year of relevant experience. They should have excellent analytical, problem-solving, troubleshooting and communication skills; a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese; good knowledge of IT services and applications; and good organizational and interpersonal skills. They should also be self-motivated, attentive to details, and capable of multi-tasking.
Applicants should have relevant experience in at least one of the following areas:
- Windows Server OS, application server/infrastructure, maintaining network, system and application infrastructure and security;
- Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint and Azure Information Protection;
- Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) platform such as Sangfor aDesk or Omnissa Horizon;
- Collaboration suites such as Alibaba Cloud DingTalk, Tencent WeCom or BytePlus Lark;
- Microsoft Power Platform;
- Possession of any one of the following would be an advantage:
- hands-on experience with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager and Microsoft Intune;
- knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Power Automate;
- hands-on experience with the PaperCut printing system;
- hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server Always-On Cluster;
- basic Linux OS administration skills;
- basic knowledge of AI tools for automating daily system administration tasks;
- experience in or knowledge of the administration of China-based software platforms including Sangfor aDesk, Alibaba Cloud DingTalk, Tencent WeCom or BytePlus Lark.
Applicants with less experience may be considered for appointment as IT Technician.
What We Offer
The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years and commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 10% of basic salary. Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
