IT Technician in the Hong Kong Jockey Club Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention within the Faculty of Social Sciences (Ref.: 537541)
Applications are invited for appointment as IT Technician in the Hong Kong Jockey Club Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention, Faculty of Social Sciences, to commence as soon as possible, on a temporary basis for up to one year, with University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, and with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day technical support to Centre staff and assist in resolving IT-related issues;
- Assist in the maintenance of IT systems, platforms and equipment used for data collection and project implementation;
- Support the procurement, setup, inventory management and maintenance of IT equipment;
- Assist in liaising with vendors on system support, survey platforms, website maintenance and other IT-related services;
- Provide support for website updates, database maintenance, data storage, data security and server-related matters;
- Assist in IT project implementation, including system upgrades, data migration, web application testing and user support;
- Help maintain procedures, guidelines and documentation relating to data management and IT security;
- Provide technical support for research projects, events and meetings when needed; and
- Perform other ad-hoc duties as assigned.
Requirements
- A Diploma or above, preferably a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline;
- Relevant work experience in IT support, system maintenance, web support, database management or related areas;
- Knowledge of computer hardware, software, networking, web applications and database systems;
- Experience in website maintenance, survey systems, data management, server support and/or IT equipment procurement would be an advantage;
- Experience in photography, photo editing, and/or video editing is advantageous;
- Relevant work experience in the higher education sector, preferably in a university setting, would be a definite advantage;
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to provide timely technical support;
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical matters to non-technical users;
- A responsible, detail-minded and service-oriented attitude;
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team; and
- A good command of written and spoken English and Chinese.
