Applications are invited for appointment as IT Technician (holding the functional title of System Specialist/ IT Technologist) (2 Posts) in the School of Computing and Data Science (Ref.: 537319) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.)
With the establishment of the School of Computing and Data Science, we are seeking high-calibre team members to support the School’s strategic initiatives and growing academic development of taught postgraduate degree programme across the following key functional areas:
1. General IT, AV & Infrastructure Support
2. Systems Development & Infrastructure Support
The Role
The appointees will support the development, maintenance, and enhancement of the Master Programme Office's (MPO) internal systems, IT infrastructure, and digitalisation and workflow automation initiatives. Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Core responsibilities
- Perform routine system updates, security patches, user account management, and network configuration to maintain a secure and efficient IT environment.
- Provide timely and professional IT support to staff and students on hardware, software, networks, user accounts, printing, office applications, and other general IT services.
- Maintain and support server infrastructure, including virtualization platforms such as VMware and Hyper-V, high-availability configurations such as failover clusters, server operating systems, monitoring, backup, and routine maintenance.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of MPO operations and programme activities.
General IT, AV & Infrastructure Support
- Support classroom teaching and programme activities, including setup, operation, and troubleshooting of computers, AV systems, presentation equipment, e-learning tools, and other teaching technologies.
- Manage, maintain, install, configure, and troubleshoot computing, audiovisual, teaching, and office IT facilities across Windows and other operating system platforms.
Systems Development & Infrastructure Support
- Assist in designing, developing, enhancing, and maintaining in-house systems, websites, web applications, and internal tools.
Working hours may occasionally include weekday evenings (until 7:30 PM) and weekends, to accommodate teaching schedules.
Qualifications and Qualities
Core requirements
- A recognised Bachelor’s degree/ Higher Diploma or above in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- Relevant experience in IT support, system administration, infrastructure support, or systems development.
- Able to perform basic network configuration and troubleshooting, including IP addressing, DNS, DHCP, subnetting, and network connectivity issues.
- Experience in providing technical support for hardware, software, network, printing, office applications, and general IT services.
- Experience or knowledge in server infrastructure support, including server operating systems, monitoring, backup, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with virtualization platforms such as VMware and Hyper-V, and high-availability technologies such as failover clustering, would be an advantage.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team, with a responsible and service-oriented attitude.
- Good troubleshooting, problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills.
General IT, AV & Infrastructure Support
- Hands-on experience in setting up, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting computers, AV systems, presentation equipment, and office tools.
- Knowledge of computing, audiovisual, teaching, and office IT facilities, including installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Systems Development & Infrastructure Support
- Experience in developing or maintaining websites, web applications, in-house systems, or internal tools.
- Knowledge of web development technologies, databases, scripting, or programming languages is required.
What We Offer
The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 10% of basic salary. Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
