Applications are invited for appointment as Senior Technical Officer in the HKU Kadoorie Centre (Ref.: 537235), to commence as soon as possible, on a two years fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance.
The HKU Kadoorie Centre
Founded in the mid-1980s through the visionary philanthropy of Sir Horace Kadoorie and Lord Lawrence Kadoorie, the HKU Kadoorie Centre is situated near Shek Kong in Hong Kong’s New Territories. The Centre takes a cross-disciplinary approach to address urgent challenges in agriculture, energy systems, water resources, nature conservation, and more. By integrating scientific knowledge at both regional and global levels, the Centre drives technological innovation for sustainability. In addition to supporting scholars and students from the University, the Centre places a strong emphasis on collaborative innovation with local and international academic communities, advancing interdisciplinary solutions to complex global challenges.
The Role
The HKU Kadoorie Centre invites applications for the position of Senior Technical Officer in the area of Food-Energy-Water Systems at the Centre.
Qualifications and RequirementsThe minimum academic requirement is a bachelor’s degree, with three to five years of relevant work experience. Preference will be given to candidates with a higher degree. Applicants should also have extensive experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Protected agriculture, precision farming, including greenhouse energy and environment management
- Sustainable materials and technologies, including but not limited to renewable energy materials and systems, solar management materials and systems, as well as the scale manufacturing of materials
Experts from other technological areas in sustainability, renewable technology, and environmental technology are also welcome to apply. Enquiries about the post may be sent to Prof. X. Yin at xbyin@hku.hk.
Other requirements include strong written and verbal communication skills; a strong record of technical excellence; the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team; and experience in project coordination and management. The appointee will be expected to provide technical and operational support for programmes and outreach activities conducted at the Kadoorie Centre. Duties may include preparing and setting up equipment and facilities, coordinating on-site technical arrangements, providing demonstrations and operational guidance, and ensuring that activities are conducted safely and smoothly. The appointee will also liaise with internal and external parties and provide logistical support as required. Experience in supporting student activities, workshops or public engagement programmes would be an advantage. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview.
