Research Assistant I (Temporary for 6 months)

Part-time Research Assistant I at the Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences (Ref.: 536978) (to commence as soon as possible for 6 months on a temporary basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability)

Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee will work under the supervision of Professor Ghassan Moazzin. He/she will assist in research projects focusing on the economic and business history of modern China. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting extensive literature reviews and archival research related to the history of the electrical and electronics industries in China and the general business history of modern China
  • Collecting, organizing, and analyzing historical data from both quantitative and qualitative sources.
  • Assisting in the preparation of research materials, reports, and manuscripts for publication.
  • Performing other duties as assigned to support the research projects.

Requirements

Applicants should possess:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or above in History or East Asian Studies, or a related discipline.
  • A strong command of written and spoken English and Chinese. Proficiency in reading historical sources (19th to 21st century) in Chinese is highly desirable.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • A strong sense of responsibility, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
  • Previous experience in academic research, archival work, or historical data analysis is an advantage.
