About the Institute and the Master Programme

The HKU Institute for Climate and Carbon Neutrality (ICCN) is a premier transdisciplinary research, educational, and stakeholder-engagement hub dedicated to inspiring solutions for climate change and leading the global transition to net zero.

The Institute offers the Master of Climate Governance and Risk Management (MCGRM), a unique interdisciplinary taught postgraduate programme hosted by the Faculty of Social Sciences in partnership with the Faculties of Science, Engineering, Architecture, Law, and Business and Economics. The programme bridges scientific rigor with strategic corporate action, equipping aspiring leaders with high-level expertise in corporate sustainability, ESG compliance, climate finance, and nature-based solutions. A core pillar of the curriculum is Climate Practice—connecting academic theory with hands-on experiential learning, corporate decarbonization projects, and field-based risk assessment.

Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee will play a pivotal role in driving the practice-oriented and applied educational components of the MCGRM programme. Key responsibilities include:

  • Practice-oriented Teaching: Delivering dynamic, high-quality lectures, practitioner workshops, and intensive career-oriented training modules across core areas such as corporate climate governance, ESG accounting, carbon footprint management, or green innovation.
  • Capstone & Fieldwork Supervision: Overseeing student Capstone Projects and guiding teams through hands-on corporate advisory reports, real-world decarbonization strategies, and global fieldwork investigations.
  • Practitioner Mentorship: Bridging the gap between classroom theory and industry execution by providing dedicated academic advising and career mentorship to emerging climate professionals.
  • Industry & Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborating with corporate partners, public policymakers, and environmental NGOs to expand internship networks, facilitate practical case studies, and support ICCN public events such as Hong Kong Climate Week.
  • Curriculum & Administration: Assisting teaching faculty with ongoing syllabus reviews, course administration, pedagogical design, and student admission evaluations.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should possess the following attributes:

  • Academic Background: Background in Climate Science, Environmental Economics, Corporate Governance, Sustainability / ESG Management, Environmental Law, or a closely related discipline.
  • Professional Practice Experience:  Demonstrated industry, clinical, or practitioner experience in ESG consulting, corporate sustainability leadership, climate risk analysis, green finance, or carbon asset management.
  • Pedagogical Excellence: Proven experience and excellence in teaching, professional training, or executive facilitation, with a strong commitment to interactive, action-oriented pedagogy.
  • Communication & Language Skills: Native or near-native English proficiency with exceptional communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills. Bilingual proficiency in English and Chinese (Cantonese or Putonghua) is highly desirable to support regional Greater Bay Area industry collaborations.
  • Collaborative Mindset: The ability to work independently and as part of an agile, interdisciplinary team dedicated to solving high-stakes environmental challenges.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The appointment on fixed terms will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary.

The University only accepts online applications for the above post. Applicants should apply online and upload an up-to-date C.V. Review of applications will start as soon as possible and continue until July 31, 2026, or until the post is filled, whichever is earlier.
