Assistant Manager (at the rank of Executive Officer) in the Technology Transfer Office (Ref.: 536326) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance)


Job Duties:

We are seeking a proactive, highly organized Assistant Manager to support the Senior Manager and Manager in strengthening the visibility and awareness of HKU RISE (Research, Innovation, Strategic Partnerships, and Entrepreneurship), while promoting HKU’s research impact to a wide range of stakeholders. The appointee will work closely with senior leadership, scholars and researchers, media partners, and business partners to translate our research excellence into strong, compelling, accessible, and real-world stories.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Executive-level speechwriting: Draft impactful talk notes and speeches for the Vice-President (Research) and senior management for media interviews and international events.
  • Media Relations: Craft professional press releases to showcase HKU’s research excellence and initiatives. Develop strategic lines-to-take (LTT) to support effective response to media inquiries.
  • Publication & Editorial Management: Oversee the end-to-end production of newsletters and research bulletins, including editorial planning, copy editing, quality control, message consistency and timely delivery.
  • Marketing Collateral: Create and refine engaging content for marketing and event materials, including: pitching proposals, award applications, marketing brochures, as well as social media copy for large-scale events or initiatives.
  • Knowledge Translation: Translate technical research papers into accessible, high-impact stories.
  • Interviewing & Feature Writing (Scholars/Researchers): Conduct interviews with scholars and researchers to produce well-written feature articles covering research projects, milestones, and achievements.
  • Stakeholders Collaboration: Partner with researchers, academic units, external and internal teams to gather materials, verify details, and deliver on communications deliverables.
  • Travel Requirement: Occasional Travel to overseas countries and Chinese Mainland may be required.


Qualifications and Qualities:

  • A good Bachelor’s degree, with at least 5 years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, copywriting and translation, preferably in the HKSAR government, technology, institutional, or academic sector.
  • Strong command of bilingual writing and editing, with proven experience in corporate/academic communications
  • Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken Chinese, English and Mandarin.
  • Demonstrated experience managing publications or multi-channel content production (e.g., newsletters, bulletins, similar outputs).
  • Strong judgement, attention to detail, and ability to deliver under tight deadlines.
  • Solid understanding of PR/communications best practices, ideally with familiarity with media processes and research fields.
  • Creativity and strong execution ability in developing social media content across platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram.
