Senior Technical Manager in Electron Microscope Unit (Central Fabrication Laboratory) (Ref.: 534853)


We are seeking a dedicated and skilled professional in nanofabrication and safety to serve as an Engineer in the newly developed Nanofabrication Facility and Microelectronics Cleanroom at the Tech Landmark.

The Tech Landmark (TLM) is a cluster of four interconnected buildings along University Drive on the Main Campus, designed to support strategically cross‑disciplinary research in science, engineering, and all related STEM fields. Equipped with extensive infrastructure, the TLM offers centralized technological platforms and shared research facilities, including Characterization Facility, Electron Microscope Unit (EMU), Nanofabrication Facility and Microelectronics Cleanroom.


The Role

The Senior Technical Manager will assist the Managing Director with daily cleanroom operations, equipment maintenance, and fostering a collaborative environment to support advanced semiconductor research. The appointee will oversee the following responsibilities:

  1. Laboratory monitoring – Continuously monitor cleanroom conditions, tracking contamination and safety parameters to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  2. Experimental execution – Conduct and document experiments in advanced nanofabrication processes with accuracy and precision.
  3. Process optimization and equipment maintenance – Perform routine maintenance, refine process recipes, and establish a database of equipment parameters for effective monitoring.
  4. Advanced user training – Provide specialized training and guidance to laboratory users on complex research topics.
  5. Project support – Assist research initiatives by tracking schedules, resources, and documentation to ensure timely delivery.
  6. Communication – Act as a liaison between team members and internal departments to promote effective collaboration.
  7. Other Duties – Perform any additional tasks as assigned.

The working schedule will follow a shift system and may include hours outside the standard office hours.


Qualifications and Qualities

  • A Master’s degree or above in Engineering, Science, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of laboratory or safety‑related experience at a supervisory level in industry or academia.
  • Corporate Membership of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (elected after 5 December 1975), or an equivalent professional qualification.
  • Certification as a Safety and Health Supervisor from a recognized organization, or an equivalent credential.
  • Proven experience in organizing and delivering courses and seminars for postgraduate or undergraduate students.
  • Strong connections with local and international equipment suppliers and experts.
  • Proficiency in fabrication processes such as photolithography (including electron beam lithography), etching, and deposition.


What We Offer

The appointment will be made on a fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
