Data Manager for protecting.health/hong kong Study in the Institute for Precision Prevention (Ref.:534819)
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Data Manager to support advancing the protecting.health Global Initiative in Hong Kong, led by Nobel Prize Laureate Prof. Dr. Ferenc Krausz. This position is integral to establishing Hong Kong as a leading hub for personalized preventive medicine research and precision health innovation under the Institute for Precision Prevention (IPP).
The successful candidate will be appointed as Data Manager at the IPP, to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal, subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance.
protecting.health aims to revolutionize healthcare by pioneering personalized preventive medicine for prevalent non-communicable diseases (NCDs) including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer, claiming 17 million premature deaths every year. The protecting.health/hong kong study is a large-scale, longitudinal health monitoring study that is part of a series of identically designed studies implemented in multiple countries to jointly develop the world's first health screening test for early, pre-symptomatic detection of prevalent NCDs through advanced blood molecular phenotyping and artificial intelligence.
This position offers a unique opportunity to play a central role in managing the data infrastructure and quality of a landmark initiative with global impact. The Data Manager will work in close collaboration with the local study Principle Investigator and his team as well as the global protecting.health team, located in Germany and Hungary.
Key Responsibilities
Data Management & Quality Assurance
- Oversee all core data management functions for the protecting.health/hong kong study, including data acquisition, transfer, and storage, ensuring data integrity and accessibility
- Oversee data documentation, including data dictionaries, operational procedures, and data capture guidelines
- Process and prepare data to ensure the highest quality standards for research use, implementing rigorous quality control procedures
- Ensure full compliance with data security protocols, privacy regulations, and institutional data management requirements
Database Development & Technical Implementation
- Oversee robust database system implementation to support large-scale longitudinal data collection
- Oversee data validation rules, quality control checks, and automated processes to ensure data completeness and accuracy
- Collaborate with the central protecting.health team to ensure alignment with global data standards, protocols, and operational requirements
- Work closely with multi-disciplinary teams including epidemiologists, clinicians, and data scientists to support data needs
Project Coordination & Reporting
- Oversee data management project timelines, identifying risks and implementing solutions to ensure timely delivery
- Prepare regular status reports, data exports and data summaries
- Coordinate with the study implementation team to monitor data collection progress and address data-related issues promptly
- Translate complex technical data management concepts into clear, non-technical language for diverse stakeholders
- Support the preparation of grant applications, progress reports, and scientific communications with data-related content
Qualifications & Qualities
Required Qualifications
- Postgraduate degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in statistics, computer science, mathematics, informatics, epidemiology, biomedical sciences, or a related discipline
- At least 3 years of experience in data management, programming, and statistics, ideally in clinical research, epidemiological studies, or large-scale population health initiatives
- Strong technical skills in data management systems and statistical software
- Excellent written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese)
