Research Assistant I / Research Assistant II in the Department of Geography (Ref.: 534777)

Duties and Responsibilities 

The appointee will assist the Department in a variety of research and administrative tasks. The main duties include: 

 

  • Research & History Project: Conducting archival research and data collection for the Department’s history book project, including locating historical documents and coordinating with senior faculty members; 

  • Departmental Publications: Assisting in the editorial coordination of the departmental website and newsletter, including soliciting updates from staff, compiling content, and proofreading drafts; 

  • Event Support: Assisting in the logistical arrangements for departmental events, conferences, and public engagement activities (e.g., venue booking, guest liaison, and on-site support); 

  • General Administration: Providing administrative support to the General Office, including database management, file organization, and handling enquiries; and 

  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Head of Department. 

 

Requirements  

Applicants should possess: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree or above, preferably in Geography, Social Sciences, or related disciplines; 

  • An excellent command of written and spoken Chinese and English; 

  • High level of digital competency, including advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience with digital collaboration platforms and content creation tools for graphic design or social media management would be a distinct advantage; 

  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills; 

  • A strong sense of responsibility and the ability to work independently; and 

  • Attention to detail.

The appointment will commence as soon as possible on a 1-year temporary basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
