Post-doctoral Fellow, HKU Jockey Club Enterprise Sustainability Global Research Institute (Ref.: 534617) in the Faculty of Business and Economics (several posts) (to commence as soon as possible on one-year temporary terms or two-year fixed terms, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.)

HKU Jockey Club Enterprise Sustainability Global Research Institute, a strategic collaboration between The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC), aspires to establish as a world-class hub for Environmental, Social, and Governance best practices for Hong Kong, Asia and beyond. Bringing together distinguished global scholars from diverse fields, our mission is to foster a multidisciplinary approach to ESG research and training, as well as to forge partnerships with private and public sectors for sustainability initiatives and responsible leadership advocacy.

As a leading institute in ESG research, we are dedicated to creating meaningful, lasting impact through pioneering studies, actionable insights, ESG index development, start-up incubation and transformative projects. Our objective is to equip the next generation of ESG professionals and leaders with the knowledge and skills necessary to promote responsible and sustainable growth.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Finance or Economics obtained within the past three years, or be on track to complete their Ph.D. before the summer of 2026. They should demonstrate strong research interest in corporate governance and/or sustainability finance, possess excellent written and spoken English communication skills, and show solid proficiency in academic writing and empirical research, including data collection, management, and analysis. Proficiency in coding is strongly preferred, particularly for web scraping and large-scale textual analysis using NLP and LLM-based techniques. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview.

Responsibilities:

The appointee will work closely with the Institute Directors on research projects in corporate governance, sustainability, and related areas, with the goal of producing publications in leading academic journals. The appointee will also support the Institute’s academic activities in a coordination and execution capacity, including managing the working paper and blog series, assisting with the organization of conferences and seminars, and contributing to the Institute’s scholarly environment through regular participation in seminars, lectures, and other events.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.
