Technical Officer in the School of Biological Sciences (Ref.: 534583) (on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance)

Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or above in Science or a related field with at least 3 years of hands-on experience in laboratory work. They should demonstrate proficiency in a wide range of laboratory techniques. Expertise in food sciences and molecular biology is essential, including advanced skills in cell culture methodologies. Practical experience with analytical and laboratory equipment, such as LCMS, FACS, acid digesters, and food processing machinery, is required. A good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese is necessary, along with a strong sense of responsibility and good interpersonal skills. Applicants should also be able to to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

The appointee will serve as the Technician-in-charge (TIC) for designated teaching practical courses, primarily in microbiology and food sciences, and provide support for other laboratory sessions. Responsibilities include developing and distributing practical handouts aligned with course objectives and safety standards; procuring, preparing, and organizing materials and equipment for experiments; designing and optimizing experimental workflows; delivering pre-session demonstrations; and providing technical support to enhance student learning. The appointee will also assist in compiling and assessing laboratory reports. 

As the TIC for central laboratory facilities, the appointee will manage large-scale equipment (such as FACS and LCMS), ensure operational functionality, cleanliness, and safety compliance, provide user training, diagnose and repair malfunctions, monitor inventory, and oversee system usage records and maintenance schedules. Additionally, the appointee will support research groups by maintaining and troubleshooting lab equipment, handle procurement and budgetary tasks, maintain laboratory consumables, and assist users with experimental design and research activities. He/She will also perform any other duties as assigned.
