Research Assistant I/II in the Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care, School of Clinical Medicine (Ref: 534536), to commence as soon as possible for one year, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability. The appointee will have the opportunity to join a highly interdisciplinary research team led by Dr. Jiandong Zhou, which involves collaborative research and close interactions with local and international collaborators including Medical Professionals, Epidemiologists, Health Economists, Data Scientists, and other clinical staff and healthcare stakeholders, in the field of Family Medicine and Primary Care.

 

The appointee will work on various projects related to health promotion and infectious diseases, with a primary focus on conducting cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA) and health economic modeling for prevention and management programs. Key research areas will include metabolic diseases (such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, lipid disorders, and obesity) and infectious diseases (including HBV, HCV, H. pylori, HIV, HPV, and others). The appointee will contribute to designing, building, and validating simulation models (e.g., Markov, microsimulation) to evaluate the long-term clinical outcomes, economic impact, and cost-effectiveness of interventions, supporting evidence-based decision-making for health policy and clinical practice.

 

Requirements:

 

- Possess a Bachelor degree or above in Health Economics, Pharmacoeconomics, Public Health, Epidemiology, Medical Statistics, Data Science, or a related quantitative discipline.

 

- Strong experience in health economic modeling and cost-effectiveness analysis, with a proven ability to design, implement, and validate simulation models for healthcare interventions.

 

- Proficiency in statistical analysis and modeling software (e.g., R, Python, TreeAge, SAS, STATA).

 

- Good understanding of the clinical management pathways for metabolic diseases (DM, HPTN, etc.) and/or infectious diseases (HBV, HCV, HPV, HIV, H. pylori, etc.).

 

- Demonstrate publication records in notable health economics, medical, or public health journals (as first or senior author within the past 3-5 years).

 

- Responsible and highly self-initiated, with the ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.

 

- Ability to present complex methodological and economic concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

 

- Outstanding organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete tasks in a precise and detailed manner.

 

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with the team and collaborators.

 

- Fluency in both written and spoken English is a must.

 

Desirable Abilities:

 

- Possess in-depth knowledge and a proven track record of applying health economic evaluation methods to real-world healthcare questions.

 

- Relevant research or work experience in the economic evaluation of programs for metabolic diseases, infectious diseases, or primary care interventions.

 

- Familiarity with healthcare systems, cost structures, and health policy contexts in Hong Kong or similar regions.

 

- Experience working with large healthcare datasets (e.g., electronic health records, claims data) for parameter estimation in models.

 

- Proficiency in both written and spoken Chinese.
