Director of Campus Services Office

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) is seeking a strategic, dynamic and experienced leader to serve as the Director of the newly established Campus Services Office (CSO).

The Position

Reporting to the Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Business), the appointee will lead the strategic development, management, and operations of campus services, including but not limited to catering, business outlets, and certain residential facilities. The appointee will drive the transformation of various units into a business-oriented, financially self-sustaining model, delivering high-quality services to the University community. Additionally, the appointee will oversee project planning, setup, and operation of campus spaces and facilities in Chinese mainland, ensuring alignment with the University's standards and strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all CSO operations, including catering services, business outlets, postgraduate and certain staff residences, guest accommodations, and various campus facilities.
• Lead the CSO in adopting a business-centric, result-oriented operational model focused on service excellence, operational efficiency, and financial sustainability.
• Develop and implement strategic plans, service delivery models, financial goals, and key performance indicators for the CSO.
• Oversee the integration and centralised management of service units, ensuring compliance with University policies and responsiveness to the evolving needs of students and staff.
• Drive innovation and continuous improvement in service delivery, fostering a culture of excellence and community belonging.
• Oversee the planning, development, and operation management of new campus spaces and facilities, particularly in Chinese mainland, including property management, catering services, and residential accommodations for staff and students, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
• Oversee financial management, budgeting, reporting, and utilisation of reserve fund in accordance with University protocols.
• Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing team across the CSO’s divisions, ensuring effective staff integration and alignment with organisational goals.
• Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Conduct regular performance reviews, prepare strategic reports, and provide recommendations for continuous improvements to the Vice-President (Business).
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the University.

Qualifications and Qualities

• Bachelor’s degree or above in Business Administration, Facilities Management, Hospitality, Property Management, or a related field. An advanced degree is preferred.
• A minimum of 15 years’ relevant management experience in business services, campus management, hospitality, or related operations, with at least 10 years in a senior leadership role.
• Demonstrated success in strategic planning, business development, financial management, and operational excellence in a complex organisational setting.
• Proven project management track record , particularly in planning and operating campus space and facilities, with essential experience in the Chinese mainland.
• Solid understanding of mainland business environment and practices.
• Experience in managing catering services, property management, and residential operations for staff and students.
• Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to drive cultural change and foster team collaboration.
• Skilled in stakeholder engagement across diverse internal and external groups.
• High level of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to service excellence.
• Fluency in English and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin).

What We Offer

The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for two or three years, to commence as soon as possible, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
