Assistant Services Manager (Research Services) (at the rank of Executive Officer) in the University Libraries (Ref: 534172)
We are seeking a highly motivated candidate to join our Learning and Research Services team to provide quality learning and research support at the University Libraries.
 
The Role
 
Reporting to the Associate Librarian (Learning and Research Services), the appointee will provide research data and scholarly communication services and perform other duties as follows:
 
• Plan, provide, and develop research data services, aligned with the University’s policies and backed by solid knowledge of the current landscape of scholarly communications;
• Coordinate among the different divisions within the Libraries to achieve best practices in research data management and data stewardship, including but not limited to maintaining and developing data management plan submission workflow and the institutional data repository (HKU DataHub);
• Educate researchers on research data management via advice, user guides, and training sessions;
• Advocate open science culture within and beyond the University through service provision, education, and outreach efforts, informed by trends in the greater open science movement;
• Provide bibliometrics and research impact services;
• Develop asynchronous learning materials, deliver trainings and workshops, and participate in campaigns and events to publicize Libraries’ services, promote information literacy and provide research support;
• Provide information services to library patrons through various channels;
• Supervise support staff to provide quality services; and
• Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications and Qualities
 
Applicants should possess:
 
• a Bachelor’s degree in information science/librarianship OR an advanced degree relevant to the position;
• at least 3 years’ post-qualification experience;
• hands-on experience in research support in an academic environment;
• sound knowledge and understanding of a broad variety of topics in scholarly communications, including but not limited to research data management, open access, and research metrics;
• strong organizational, time management and project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple concurrent tasks; 
• strong written and oral communication skills in English and Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua); and
• strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and innovatively with colleagues within the Libraries, the University community at large, and external communities.
 
What we offer
 
The appointment will be made on a fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.  A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of basic salary. Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
