Applications are invited for the position of Assistant Research Officer (carry the functional title of Research Project Manager) at the Social Sciences Research Centre (SSRC) within the Faculty of Social Sciences (Ref.: 534093), to commence as soon as possible. The appointment is on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance.

Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee will provide a full spectrum of support to the research activities of the SSRC in various areas, including project management, survey design and implementation, data cleaning and analysis, grant proposal preparation, academic paper and policy report writing, training and event organization, as well as performing any other duties as assigned by the senior management team of the Centre.

Requirements

Applicants possess a master’s degree in a social science discipline preferably in research project management, data analysis or related disciplines with at least 3 years of work experience in a higher education or research institution. They should demonstrate strong quantitative skills, including experience with statistical software such as R, SAS, or Stata, and the ability to manage and analyse large and complex datasets. They should also have an excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese (fluency in both Cantonese and Putonghua would be an advantage), excellent time management and problem-solving skills, and a high level of IT proficiency. Applicants should demonstrate excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. They should be mature, meticulous, and discreet in handling matters. Applicants should also show the capacity for independent action, the ability to perform diversified duties and multi-task, and work well under pressure with people from diverse backgrounds.

The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of basic salary.
