IT Officer/IT Technician in the Master Programmes Office of the School of Computing and Data Science (Ref: 533788) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.)

The School of Computing and Data Science is seeking a high caliber candidate to support the taught master’s programmes. Fresh graduates will also be considered.


The Role:

The appointee will be responsible for the development, implementation, and management of in-house systems and data infrastructure to facilitate efficient data analysis and decision-making processes. This includes overseeing the design, maintenance, and optimization of data management platforms to ensure data integrity, security, and accessibility. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • In-House System Development & Management: Designing and developing custom software solutions and managing existing systems to streamline operational workflows. Ensuring systems are scalable, reliable, and aligned with organizational needs.
  • Data Management & Analysis Support: Implementing data collection, storage, and retrieval protocols. Supporting staff and students in data analysis activities by providing technical expertise and tools.
  • System & Network Administration: Performing routine system updates, security patches, user account management, and network configuration to maintain a secure and efficient IT environment.
  • Web and Application Development: Designing, developing, and maintaining organizational websites and mobile applications to support various institutional initiatives and enhance user engagement.
  • Training & Documentation: Providing training sessions and creating user manuals to facilitate effective use of IT resources and systems across the organization.

Qualifications and Qualities

  • A recognised Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in systems development, network administration, or IT support.

  • Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (fluency in Cantonese and Putonghua).
  • Good interpersonal skills, a strong sense of responsibility, self-motivation, well-organised, and able to work independently under pressure with minimal supervision.
  • A positive mindset with excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Fast learner with a strong eagerness to acquire new skills and technologies as needed.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, PHP, or others suitable for application development and data analysis.
  • Experience with modern web development frameworks and technologies, including backend development and database systems (relational databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or NoSQL options).
  • Knowledge of network setup, security protocols, server management, and basic system administration skills.


Those with lower qualifications and/or less experience may be considered for appointment as IT Technician. The appointee will work from the School’s Master Programme Office located in Pacific Plaza, Sai Wan.


What We Offer

The appointment will be made on fixed term full-time contract for 2 year, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of the basic salary. Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
