Assistant Technical Manager in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (Ref: 533677) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance).
Applicants should possess a recognized Bachelor’s degree, preferably a Master’s degree in Information Technology (IT), Computer Science, or a related discipline, with at least 5 years’ relevant experience in the field of IT in a tertiary institution. They must have solid experience in web-application programming (JavaScript, HTML5, CSS, jQuery), system development (PHP, Python, C++), database management (SQL, NoSQL) and server administration (Linux, Windows Server). Sound knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies and familiarity with AI-powered tools (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Ollama, LLM, gen-AI chatbots) would be required. Management experience in the higher education sector would be an advantage. They should demonstrate a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua), a strong sense of responsibility, self-motivation, interpersonal skills, and ability to work independently and under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
The appointee will oversee the IT infrastructure of the department, including networks, servers, databases, in-house system development, CCTV and door access systems, hardware inventory and software assets, and lead a small team for housekeeping of a computing lab and research offices, and delivering comprehensive IT services to the department, academic staff, administrative staff, researchers and students. He/She will develop and implement IT policies and procedures, collaborating with internal and external units to support AI-driven innovations and applications, specifically focusing on integrating and managing AI-related technologies to enhance administrative, teaching, and research operations. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a written test and an interview.
