Assistant Editor (at the rank of Clerk I) in the Communications and Public Affairs Office of the Registry (Ref.: 533538)

The Communications and Public Affairs Office (CPAO) of the Registry of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) enhances HKU's reputation through branding, events, digital communications, media relations, and more. The office is also responsible for University events and ceremonies, publications, both external and internal communications, crisis management and community engagement. We are looking for talented candidates to join the team. 

Position Overview:

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Social Media Editor with 4-5 years of professional experience. The ideal candidate will focus on generating engaging content for the official social media account of HKU hosted by the CPAO team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct interviews and material research for campus life and education-related topics;
  • Create engaging digital stories based on concepts derived from interviews and research;
  • Leverage multimedia content to generate creative and engaging social media posts aligned with the overall University’s brand direction;
  • Proofread, fact-check, and ensure the validity and accuracy of content with respect to grammar, accuracy, and the University’s house style;
  • Plan and coordinate the editorial schedule and manage operational processes;
  • Collaborate closely with other teams within and outside the department, and occasionally with media representatives; and
  • Support office and University activities, which may require occasional work outside regular office hours.

Qualifications and Qualities:

  • A good Bachelor’s degree in Journalism. Communications, or a relevant discipline;
  • At least 4-5 years of professional experience in a social media content creation role;
  • An excellent command of English and Chinese, with outstanding storytelling skillset;
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external cross-functional teams in a complex environment;
  • A high level of attention to detail, including a proven ability to manage multiple and competing priorities simultaneously;
  • An excellent command of social media platform trends and operations is a must (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Threads, WeChat, Weibo, and XHS);
  • Proficiency with multimedia AI tools such as Canva, Midjourney, Banana, Perplexity, and Figma is necessary;
  • Previous in-house social media account management experience is a plus, and
  • A willingness to work outside regular work hours.

What We Offer:

The appointment will be made on a fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of the basic salary. Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
