Senior Technical Officer in the School of Biomedical Sciences (Ref.: 532407) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance).
Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree, preferably a postgraduate degree. They should have at least 2 years’ work experience in biological sciences, neuroscience or a related laboratory science discipline. They should be highly motivated, and able to work independently and as a team in a multi-disciplinary laboratory environment. Experience with transgenic mice, molecular biology techniques, data analysis, imaging techniques and/or in vivo physiology techniques would be an asset.
The appointed individual will work with a team of enthusiastic neuroscientists on a range of exciting projects at the interface between cellular, systems and computational neuroscience. The group is using a combination of the latest imaging, optogenetic and electrophysiological approaches to understand the relationship between neural circuit activity and behaviour.
The appointee will play a crucial role in supporting laboratory activities, maintaining equipment and facilities, and collaborating with researchers to ensure smooth scientific operations. Their responsibilities include, but are not limited to: conducting laboratory experiments and providing technical support to researchers and staff, maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment, troubleshooting technical issues and ensuring the proper functioning of experimental setups, preparing and analyzing tissue samples, ensuring reliable storage of experimental data, assisting in the development and implementation of laboratory protocols and standard operating procedures, collaborating with researchers to optimize experimental procedures and providing technical guidance, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and maintaining a clean and organized laboratory environment.
