Research Assistant II (Learning and Research Services) in the University Libraries (Ref.: 532364)

 

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to support our data-driven projects within the Learning and Research Services team.

 

The Role

 

Reporting to the Associate Librarian (Learning and Research Services), the successful candidate will focus on bibliometrics and research impact initiatives, utilizing advanced data analysis and visualization techniques.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deploy technology to analyze data from diverse internal and external research support platforms;
  • Develop interactive and static visualizations using Tableau, Power BI, R, Python, or comparable tools;
  • Collect, extract, and organize data from multiple scholarly and open-data sources;
  • Build and enhance automated workflows for data retrieval through APIs, web scraping, and scheduled jobs;
  • Clean, merge, and validate large datasets to ensure high data quality and consistency;
  • Collaborate closely with librarians and research teams to maintain accurate data; and
  • Perform other research-related tasks as assigned.

 

Qualifications and Skills

 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline;
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, including experience with data wrangling libraries;
  • Experience with web scraping and API integration for automated data collection;
  • Basic understanding of statistical techniques and data cleaning processes;
  • Motivated with a strong willingness to learn new technologies and tools;
  • Experience with AI-assisted coding or pair-programming tools; and
  • Proficiency in data visualization and reporting.

 

What we offer

 

The appointment will commence as soon as possible for one year on a temporary basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.
