Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow/Senior Research Assistant (holding the functional title of Senior System Engineer) in the Department of Architecture (Ref.: 531871), to commence as soon as possible, on a one- to three-year temporary contract, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance.

The University of Hong Kong Healthy High Density Cities Lab has secured a General Research Fund (GRF) grant for studying infectious airborne disease transmission in relation to urban and building-level airflow paths.

Applicants should possess a PhD degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or related disciplines.  Those with a Master’s degree and at least 1 year’s post-qualification relevant experience may be appointed as Senior Research Assistant. They should also have:

  • prior technical project management experience and excellent communication skills in English;
  • expertise in Artificial Intelligence based Computational Fluid Dynamics frameworks;
  • knowledge of physics informed neural networks (PINN) and explainable machine learning (EML) frameworks;
  • experience in related technologies including large-scale data analysis, deep learning, Python, PyTorch; and
  • the ability to conduct research in a logical, detail-oriented, and self-motivated manner.

The appointee will help lead a research team to conduct data analysis for different types of data, including infection data, aerosol simulation data, airflow data, as well as the development of an analysis pipeline.
