Library Assistant I/Library Assistant (Collection Services) in the University Libraries (Ref.: 531845)
 
The Role 
 
Reporting to the Collection Services Librarian, the appointee will assist in the acquisition and administration of the library’s print and electronic resources in support of teaching, learning and research. This post is also responsible for ensuring maintenance of accurate information in Alma for the smooth delivery of e-resources and the collection development of library services.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
• Support acquisition of electronic resources and the print equivalent;
• Process renewals according to schedules and solve problems encountered in placing orders and processing payment;
• Assist in management of electronic resources including licensing, usage statistics and data processing;
• Communicate with vendors, colleagues and users based on their needs such as solving access problem;
• Conduct title analysis for collection development purposes; and
• Perform other duties as assigned by Collection Services Librarian.
 
Qualifications and Qualities
 
 Applicants should possess:
 
• A recognized university degree OR a diploma in librarianship with relevant post-qualification experience, preferably with three years or above of experience in technical services;
• Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua);
• Ability to provide technical support for computer applications;
• Demonstrated proficiency in library automated system and technical services workflows;
• Working knowledge of Alma and Primo is desirable;
• Customer-oriented, self-motivated mindset and strong committment to quality service; and
• Experience of providing operational support to bibliographic record maintenance and electronic resource management would be an advantage.
 
Applicants with less professional experience in acquisition and administration of the library’s print and electronic resources may be considered for appointment at the rank of Library Assistant.
 
What we offer
 
The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of basic salary. Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
