Student Research Assistant in the Centre on Contemporary China and the World (Ref.: 531446)

Duties and Responsibilities
The appointees will have an ample opportunity to work under the supervision and guidance of scholars within the Centre on the professional policy research on political leadership and governance, including:
- collect and analyse data
- compile bibliographies and chronologies
- write briefing memos and draft summary reports, abstracts, and analyses of books and articles
- prepare notes on meetings and conferences
- create and maintain spreadsheets and databases
- copy-edit scholars’ articles, monographs, papers, and books for clarity of language, accuracy, grammar and spelling
- create, update and confirm footnotes, provide fact-checking, editing, and proofreading
- assist scholars in drafting remarks, articles, and presentations, including the development and formatting of PowerPoint presentations
- provide proactive support on event organization, scheduling, logistics, and administrative tasks for the day-to-day operation of the Centre and for certain Centre events
Requirements
- undergraduate or graduate students in political science, international affairs, economics, or related disciplines
- a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Mandarin)
- a good understanding of Chinese politics, economy, society, China-US relations, and broader international affairs
- good writing and editing skills for English and Chinese academic texts
- good skills in drafting event materials, such as announcements, invitations, and reports
- effective use of the Internet and proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Excel) is essential, and familiarity with additional data analytics tools is preferred.
- excellent organizational and communication skills with a high level of attention to detail
- ability to work with minimal supervision, multi-task, prioritise and complete tasks in a timely manner
What We Offer
The appointment will commence as soon as possible on a temporary part-time basis, or full-time basis during the summer months (June 1 – August 31, 2025), with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered.
