Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow in the Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care, School of Clinical Medicine (Ref.: 530984) (to commence as soon as possible for one year, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance)
Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in the field of epidemiology, biostatistics, statistics, public health, or a related field. They should have an excellent command of written and spoken English, and a demonstrated record of academic excellence. They will ideally be proficient in data analysis using statistical or computer modelling software, such as Stata or R. They should be organized, self-motivated, and have the ability to multitask and work independently as well as in a team. Experience in conducting ‘big-data’ research projects and/or health services research would be highly desirable.
The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Clinical Professor Dr. Peter Tanuseputro. Prof Tanuseputro is a family physician and a public health physician who has recently joined the University of Hong Kong. He conducts health services research using ‘big data’ in the areas of primary care, end-of-life care, and care for frail and vulnerable populations. He runs research in a team-based environment, with a focus on development of junior faculty, trainees, and research staff. The fellow will work with research assistants, analysts, other fellows, graduate students, clinicians and scientists.
The appointee will participate in health services and epidemiological studies that will examine health care delivery and outcomes using population-based health data. While the focus of the research program is on older, frail populations, they will also conduct studies on other populations, including mothers and their offspring, and primary care patients. They will also be involved in international collaborations, including with researchers in Canada and other countries using similar health databases.
The successful candidate will assist the core project team in planning and coordinating research projects, prepare publications and presentations, participate in grant submissions, supervise research staff, and perform other relevant tasks. There will be many opportunities to collaborate with research and health professionals to develop a research career in health services research. If you have any questions about the duties of this post, please contact Dr. Tanuseputro at petertan@hku.hk.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.
