The Faculty’s newly established HKU Jockey Club Enterprise Sustainability Global Research Institute is seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to join our prestigious Business School as an Administrative Director.
HKU Jockey Club Enterprise Sustainability Global Research Institute, a strategic collaboration between The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC), aspires to establish as a world-class hub for Environmental, Social, and Governance best practices for Hong Kong, Asia and beyond. Bringing together distinguished global scholars from diverse fields, our mission is to foster a multidisciplinary approach to ESG research and training as well as to forge partnerships with private and public sectors for sustainability initiatives and responsible leadership advocacy.

Our objective is to equip the next generation of ESG professionals and leaders with the knowledge and skills necessary to promote responsible and sustainable growth.

The Role
Primary job responsibilities include, but not limited to, the following:
- Oversee the institute's day-to-day administrative operations, ensuring smooth functioning and efficient management;
- Play a pivotal role in research and knowledge exchange portfolios, further solidifying the Faculty's reputation for ground-breaking academic exploration in the field of sustainability;
- Manage the research budget will be a key responsibility;
- Facilitate cross-disciplinary academic research teams, fostering collaboration and innovation among esteemed Faculty members with cutting-edge research initiatives and creating lasting impact on the academic community;
- Oversee the development of teaching programs in sustainability and collaborate with other key players within the HKU Business School and outside the Faculty; and
- Perform other duties as assigned by directors and supervisors.
Qualifications and Qualities
- At least bachelor’s degree in environmental science or business-related fields;
- A master's degree is preferred, coupled with a remarkable track record of at least 8 years of administrative and management experience, including at least 5 years’ work experience in a supervisory role;
- Solid experience in ESG-related industries is essential;
- Knowledge and familiarity of the industry key players in climate change, sustainability; green energy etc;
- Familiarity with academic research and process involved;
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English and Chinese (including Putonghua);
- Ability to showcase the financial acumen and strategic thinking;
- Ability to solve problems, organize tasks, build strong interpersonal relationships, work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating a high level of initiative; and proficiency in IT and multitasking;
- Experience with successful research funding applications, grant management, and interacting with or managing researchers will be considered a significant advantage; and
- Ability to work independently and take on initiatives and work outside the comfort zone when needed.

What We Offer
The appointment will be made on a fixed-term full-time contract for two years, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 15% of basic. Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
