Senior Technical Officer/Technical Officer in the Department of Earth Sciences (Ref.: 530831) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance)
Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or above in a related discipline of Earth Sciences/Chemistry/Engineering/Physics, with at least 3-5 years’ related work experience. A strong background in elemental and isotope geochemistry, and hands-on experience in analytical and instrumental techniques for a wide range of Earth Sciences applications such as optical microscopy, ICP-MS, laser ablation system, X-ray diffractometer, Raman microscopy and/or Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, would be advantageous. Experience in electronics and instrumentation troubleshooting is preferred. Applicants should also have an excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese; strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving and supervisory skills; and be self-motivated. They should be diligent, responsible, and able to work independently and effectively under pressure. Those with less experience/qualifications may be considered for the appointment as Technical Officer.
The appointee will manage, operate and maintain the analytical and instrumental facilities and assist in innovative research across the earth sciences. The appointee will also assist in the preparation of tender/purchase orders for the procurement of laboratory equipment/consumables; provide technical advice for the future development of the research facility; and perform any other duties as assigned.
