Senior Certificated Dental Surgery Assistant (at the rank of Extended Duty Dental Surgery Assistant) in the Institute for Advanced Dentistry Multi-Specialty Clinic (IAD-MSC) of the Faculty of Dentistry (Ref.: 530776) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basis salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance)
As part of HKU’s Faculty of Dentistry, ranked among the top three by the QS World University Rankings by Subject for eight out of the past ten years (2015-2024), IAD-MSC is a centre of excellence for the management of complex and severe oral conditions. The institute provides postgraduate dental education, fosters clinical innovation, and offers continuing dental and professional education for practicing dentists and specialists.
IAD-MSC is situated in Hong Kong island at a 19,000 ft² state-of-the-art facility. Equipped with 45 dental chairs and paired with the latest technologies, students from seven different dental disciplines can receive education and training in advanced dentistry and interact with real patients.
Applicants should have a Certificate of Proficiency in Dental Surgery Assisting issued by a recognized institute, or equivalent; AND 5 passes in HKCEE, including English (min. Grade C if Syllabus A/Level 2 from 2007), Chinese (Level 2 from 2007) and Mathematics, OR min. Level 2 or equivalent in 5 subjects in HKDSEE including English Language, Chinese Language and Mathematics, with at least 15 years’ post-qualification work experience in dental surgery assisting, experience in a supervisory position for clinical support to specialists and chairside support of a sizable clinic. They should demonstrate leadership, strong interpersonal and communication skills; and the ability to work independently, make professional judgements, and carry out and supervise day-to-day clinical support. Those with less experience will carry a functional title “Assistant Senior Certificated Dental Surgery Assistant”.
The appointee will be responsible for the day-to-day chairside support operation including the management of dental surgery assistants and dental clinic assistants, as well as equipment and instrument sterilization and turnover. He/She will (a) perform chairside assisting; (b) provide training and supervision for dental auxiliaries; (c) prepare roster and reports; (d) manage clinical resources; and (e) perform other duties as assigned.
