Applications are invited for appointment as Legal Counsel (at the rank of Administrative Assistant I/IIin the Technology Transfer Office (Ref.: 528886), to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability. 

Applicants should be qualified as a lawyer in Hong Kong with at least 5 years’ post-qualification work experience in private practice or in-house (must have been with MNC or internationally-orientated Asian entity), preferably with solid experience in multinational transactions across a variety of legal area (e.g. patent law, copyright law, business and commercial law) and cross-border commercial projects.  Applicants should have excellent analytical and drafting skills with the ability to provide accurate, practical and timely advice; a strong understanding of commercial issues and risk management; a good command of spoken and written English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Putonghua); proficiency in English and Chinese word processing and PC applications such as MS Word and Excel; excellent interpersonal, organizational, detail-oriented and communication skills; and a strong sense of responsibility.  They should be able to provide sound and pragmatic legal advice that is both business and solution-oriented while effectively managing legal risk at the same time.  They should also be self-motivated, hardworking, able to work independently under minimal supervision, and a good team player who is able to work effectively with the business development team and be seen as a trusted advisor.    

The appointee will be required to draft and review legal agreements and documents; provide legal advice in areas of technology transfer, research and knowledge exchange, especially IP licensing, research related contracts and compliance of institutional policy and laws; liaise and negotiate contract terms with internal and external parties; develop and advise on internal policies, practices and procedures; conduct legal research and translate English and Chinese legal documents; and perform other tasks as assigned. 

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  The appointment will come with a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary for AAI, or up to 10% of basic salary for AAII.
