The CSO Campus Services Office (CSO) is a newly established unit to unify the management of various service entities, including catering services, on-campus business outlets, postgraduate residences, and future operations of guest accommodations and staff quarters. The aims are fostering a service-oriented culture, improving operational efficiency, and ensure the long-term financial sustainability of these units by taking a more dynamic business approach.
The Role
The CSO is seeking a proactive, resourceful, and experienced professional for the position of Assistant Director. The Assistant Director will support the Director in overseeing and managing the operations and strategic initiatives of the CSO, including catering services, on-campus business outlets, and selected postgraduate and staff residences. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong operational management skills, a collaborative spirit, and a commitment to continuous improvement and service excellence.
Qualifications and Qualities
- A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, or a related field; a Master’s degree is advantageous;
- At least 10 years of relevant experience in business service management, hospitality, hotel and property management, or a related industry, with a track record of increasing responsibility;
- Demonstrated experience in operational management, project coordination, and process improvement;
- Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to changing circumstances;
- A business-oriented mindset and familiarity with financial management and reporting;
- Effective leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff;
- Creative, innovative, and solutions-focused, with a proven ability to contribute to change initiatives;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders; and
- Experience in higher education or a large organizational setting is an asset.
Detailed Responsibilities
- Support the Director in providing leadership and strategic direction for the CSO, ensuring alignment with the University’s goals and objectives;
- Assist in the day-to-day management and operational oversight of catering services, business outlets, and residential facilities;
- Contribute to the development and implementation of a business-centric model focused on financial self-sufficiency and high-quality service delivery;
- Help foster a results-oriented culture, promoting measurable outcomes, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement;
- Support the management of service units, ensuring efficient, adaptable, and innovative operations that meet the evolving needs of the University community;
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to enhance service delivery and operational synergies;
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, financial reports, and operational reviews for the CSO, ensuring transparency and accountability;
- Participate in the planning and execution of projects and initiatives that drive innovation and positive change within the CSO; and
- Supervise and mentor staff, promoting professional development and high standards of performance.
What We Offer
The appointment will be made on a fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The appointment will also attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
