Research Assistant I/II in the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, School of Clinical Medicine (Ref.: 532506)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform molecular biology techniques (PCR, qRT-PCR, cloning, Western blotting).
  • Conduct cell culture (primary and immortalized lines), transfection, transduction, and functional assays.
  • Execute mouse procedures: Handling, tissue collection, dissection.
  • Maintain detailed experimental records and analyze data.
  • Prepare reagents, manage lab inventory, and ensure compliance with safety protocols.

Travelling between different hospitals (including Queen Mary Hospital, Duchess of Kent Children's Hospital at Sandy Bay, Hong Kong Children's Hospital, The University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital, and other hospitals) may be required.

 

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree or post-secondary qualification
  • Experience with flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, CRISPR.
  • Experience with surgical procedures in mice.
  • Familiarity with data analysis software (e.g., GraphPad Prism, ImageJ).
  • A strong sense of responsibility
  • Good organizational skills
  • An excellent command of written and spoken Chinese and English
  • Attentive to details
  • Independent research skills and capability
  • Experience in project coordination and policy research is preferred, but not essential

Those with less experience may be considered as Research Assistant II.

 

What We Offer

The appointment will commence as soon as possible on a 1-year temporary basis or 2-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered. The appointment on fixed terms will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of basic salary. Other benefits include annual leave, medical benefits and free access to on-campus gyms and libraries.
