Research Assistant I/II (several posts) in the Division of Public Health Laboratory Sciences of the School of Public Health (Ref.: 536270) (to commence as soon as possible on a one-year temporary term contract, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance) 

Applicants should possess a Master’s degree or higher in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Virology or related fields. A minimum of two years of relevant hands-on experience in nucleic acid analysis, or related biomedical fields is required. Applicants should have solid knowledge and experience in nucleic acid amplification techniques (e.g., PCR, qPCR, LAMP, RPA) and nucleic acid contamination control, as well as be familiar with next-generation sequencing (NGS) and CRISPR technology. Understanding of electrochemical principles, electrochemical instrumentation operation, and data analysis would be a bonus. Exceptional problem-solving abilities, collaborative teamwork, and fluency in English and Chinese (both Mandarin and Cantonese), and strong communication skills are highly valued. Those with less experience and/or lower qualifications may be considered as Research Assistant II.

The appointees will contribute to the development, optimization, and execution of nucleic acid amplification testing protocols, ensuring accurate and reliable pathogen detection for public health surveillance. Responsibilities also encompass performing nucleic acid extraction and meticulous documentation of experimental procedures, results, and protocols to ensure reproducibility and adherence to quality standards.
