Applications are invited for appointment as Professor on tenure terms in the School of Biological Sciences (Ref.: 533786), to commence as soon as possible.

Applicants should be established experts with an internationally recognized record of scholarship in Marine Conservation.  They should possess a Ph.D. in Marine Science, Conservation Biology, Environmental Policy, or a closely related field, and demonstrate a strong research focus in one or more of the following areas: marine protected areas, marine spatial planning, policy and management, fisheries, and/or ecosystem-based conservation.  A proven track record of securing competitive research funding and publishing high-impact research of regional and global relevance is essential. Particular expertise and research experience in Southeast Asia, with a focus on China, are required.

The appointee will be a key member of the Swire Institute of Marine Science (SWIMS) at the University, providing academic leadership by developing a world-class research programme, mentoring junior staff and students, and contributing to teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He/She will also serve as a key academic representative of the Hong Kong and China Marine Protection Alliances – cross-sector coalitions focused on marine conservation and sustainable use of marine resources at both local and national levels.  Both initiatives are funded by the Swire Trust to coordinate and amplify marine protection efforts.  Exceptional candidates may also be nominated for the endowed professorship – Swire Professorship in Marine Conservation.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with the University’s contribution to a retirement benefits scheme up to 15% of basic salary.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  Other benefits include annual leave, professional leave and medical benefits.  Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
